Overview
The Old Corner Bookstore at Washington and School streets was built in 1718 as a home and apothecary on the former site of Anne Hutchinson's house. From 1832 to 1865, it was the home of the publishers Ticknor and Fields, whose authors included Hawthorne, Emerson, Longfellow, and Thoreau. Saved from demolition in 1960 by Historic Boston, it is on the National Register of Historic Places (1973) and a Freedom Trail stop, now with a restaurant.
