Overview
The Bollinger Mill State Historic Site preserves one of the largest and best-preserved water-powered gristmills in Missouri. Constructed in the 1860s by George Frederick Bollinger, the four-story mill served generations of farmers who brought corn, wheat, and other grains to be processed into flour and meal. Powered by water from the Whitewater River, the mill became an important economic center for surrounding communities and helped support settlement and agricultural development throughout southeastern Missouri.
Visitors can explore the towering timber-framed structure and view the original milling machinery that once drove production inside the building. Adjacent to the mill stands the historic Burfordville Covered Bridge, one of Missouri's few remaining covered bridges, creating a picturesque setting that blends engineering, transportation, and agricultural history.
